Best VPNs for Bahrain in 2021 for Privacy, Speed & Streaming

Online freedom in Bahrain is limited with the government fully controlling internet speed and availability. The country’s entire internet is managed through one network — the Bahrain National Broadband Network (BNET), and ISPs use website-blocking software to restrict access. It’s essential to use a powerful VPN to protect your online privacy.
After testing 87 VPNs, I’ve found only a few providers that are secure enough to keep you anonymous online without slowing down your connection. Additionally, the VPNs on my list have a global network of servers so that if you’re visiting the country, you can still access the websites and services you need from back home.
ExpressVPN is my top choice for Bahrain. It uses high-level security features that won’t compromise your speed and has servers in 90 countries to help you bypass geo-restrictions. You can try ExpressVPN in confidence (it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee).

Best VPNs for Country — Full Analysis (Updated in 2021)
Only a few VPNs are secure enough to protect your identity and online activity in Bahrain. If you’re visiting the country, you’ll also want a VPN with reliable servers worldwide to help you access the content you need, like e-banking services. With BNET controlling the country’s internet speed, a VPN with fast servers and unlimited bandwidth is essential.
The VPNs on my list meet all these requirements and show excellent performance on my various tests. As a bonus, they’re easy to use and come with money-back guarantees.
1. ExpressVPN — Powerful Security Features to Protect Your Privacy
Server speed and location: The fastest VPN tested for Bahrain. 3, 000 servers in 90 countries
Security capability: Military-grade encryption and multiple security protocols
Data privacy: No-logs policy and RAM-only servers
Money-back guarantee: 30 days
Stream local & Global content: Netflix (US), Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, ART, OSN Streaming, Bahrain Sports, and more
Compatible with: Android, Windows, iOS, Mac, Linux, Chrome, Firefox, and more
ExpressVPN is one of the best VPNs for privacy. Not only does it give you the option to pay for your subscription using a burner email account and Bitcoin, but it also runs its own encrypted DNS on every server. This means your data will never be seen by third parties because it never leaves the encrypted VPN tunnel. Plus, with its headquarters in the British Virgin Islands, ExpressVPN genuinely sticks to its no-logs policy — the country doesn’t adhere to any data-retention laws.
To further ensure your online safety and anonymity, ExpressVPN uses DNS/IPv6/WebRTC leak protection. On top of that, a kill switch (Network Lock) will automatically terminate your internet connection should the VPN unexpectedly drop. I didn’t detect any leaks while testing ExpressVPN.
Your browsing activity and identity will be safe from spies, as ExpressVPN uses the leading standard encryption algorithm (AES 256-bit) — even the US government relies on this level of encryption to secure top-secret documentation. Moreover, with ExpressVPN’s TrustedServer technology using RAM-only servers to completely wipe all traces of you with every server reboot, there’s nothing for intruders to steal.
With ExpressVPN, you can choose the security protocol best suited to your VPN requirements (including OpenVPN, IPSec, and IKEv2). In addition, the VPN provides its own custom Lightway protocol, which is extremely fast and secure.
You can safely use ExpressVPN to help you bypass geo-restrictions and access the apps and services you need with its 3, 000 servers in 90 countries. I unblocked my Netflix US, HBO Max, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer accounts successfully. You’ll also be able to Skype friends and family while visiting the country.
Of all the VPNs I tested, ExpressVPN is the fastest one. Just click the big power button, and the VPN’s Smart Location feature will connect you to the closest available server. The VPN’s impressive download speeds, plus P2P support and unlimited bandwidth, also make it ideal for torrenting.
Installing and setting up the VPN is straightforward. I was connected to a server and streaming videos in less than 5 minutes. Not only that, but you can use ExpressVPN on up to 5 devices simultaneously. The VPN provides dedicated apps for all major operating systems. With its Smart DNS feature (MediaStreamer), it works with smart TVs, gaming consoles, and routers so that you can protect multiple devices with one subscription.
Try ExpressVPN for yourself and decide if it suits your needs. The VPN also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, which I tested by requesting a refund after trying it out for 4 weeks. ExpressVPN’s 24/7 customer support was super helpful, and I got my money back in 3 working days.

2. IPVanish — Unlimited Simultaneous Connections to Safeguard All Your Devices
Server speed and location: One of the best performing VPNs for speed. 1, 900 servers in 70 countries
Security capability: Scramble VPN and AES 256-bit encryption
Data privacy: Zero logs and DNS leak prevention
Stream local & Global content: Netflix (US), Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, ART, OSN Streaming, Bahrain Sports, and more
Compatible with: Android, Windows, iOS, Mac, Linux, Chrome, and more
IPVanish allows Unlimited simultaneous device connections. If you own a small business, you can protect all your company devices with one subscription. My team and I tested IPVanish on 17 devices — the VPN worked just as well when used on multiple devices as it does with 1. Plus, IPVanish is compatible with most operating systems. You can even install it on routers, Raspberry Pi, and Amazon Fire TV.
To bypass tough firewalls and VPN blocks, you can use IPVanish’s OpenVPN Scramble feature. It will obfuscate your traffic, so no one will be able to tell you’re using a VPN. Combined with the VPN’s global network of 1, 900 servers in 70 countries, this makes IPVanish great for accessing your streaming accounts (like Netflix US) and local banking services when visiting Bahrain.
IPVanish owns and operates its entire server network and uses the unbreakable AES 256-bit encryption to guard your online activity against snoopers and hackers. Although the VPN is based in the US (which is part of the 5 Eyes Alliance), IPVanish adheres to a strict no-logs policy that clearly states it does not record any connection, traffic, or activity data. To further ensure your data won’t accidentally get exposed, IPVanish provides a kill switch and DNS/IPv6 leak protection.
IPVanish servers are super fast for buffer-free streaming, regardless of the distance from your actual location. When you open the app, you’ll immediately notice the Quick Connect screen with the Best Server option, which automatically connects to the fastest server.
Installing IPVanish is quick and easy. Its apps are intuitive enough for beginners, and it works with minimal configuration. If you need any assistance, the VPN’s website offers step-by-step visual installation guides and 24/7 customer support.
Use IPVanish’s 30-day money-back guarantee and try the VPN free for 30 days. I received a no-questions-asked refund within 5 working days.

3. CyberGhost — Beginner-Friendly VPN With Servers Optimized for Streaming
Server speed and location: Fast connections on all 7, 190 servers in 90 countries
Security capability: AES 256-bit encryption and NoSpy servers
Data privacy: No-logs policy and a kill switch
Money-back guarantee: 45 days
CyberGhost is my top choice for beginners because of its clean and simple interface. After logging in and clicking the big power button, you’ll automatically be connected to the fastest server for your location. You can also easily pick a server optimized for a specific online activity — streaming, gaming, or torrenting — in the left-hand menu. Customer support is available 24/7 via live chat and email if you get stuck.
I tested CyberGhost’s streaming optimized servers and accessed my Netflix US account in just 2 clicks. Besides its optimized servers, CyberGhost has 7, 190 servers in 90 countries, making it a great option to freely browse the web.
Even though CyberGhost is easy to use, the VPN is packed full of high-end security features, like AES 256-bit encryption and automatic WiFi protection — the VPN launches as soon as your device detects a new public hotspot. Located in privacy-friendly Romania and following a zero-logs policy, CyberGhost won’t collect or share your personally identifiable information.
CyberGhost also includes an automatic kill switch and DNS/IPv6 leak protection. You can even block ads, trackers, and malware by activating CyberGhost’s “block content” option. For added security, upgrade to the VPN’s specialized NoSpy servers — only accessible to the VPN team to eliminate third-party interference.
With one subscription, you can connect up to 7 devices simultaneously. CyberGhost is even compatible with Amazon Fire TV and Android TV.
While CyberGhost’s 1-month plans are a bit expensive, its long-term subscriptions are much more affordable and come with a lengthy 45-day money-back guarantee. Put CyberGhost’s performance to the test and try it out during the guarantee period. I didn’t experience any problems getting my money back.

4. Private Internet Access — Adjustable Security Settings for a Customized VPN Experience
Server speed and location: Fast speeds on most 29, 650 servers in 70 countries
Security capability: Various encryption algorithms and security protocols
Data privacy: No-logs policy, DNS/IP leak protection, and a kill switch
Stream local & Global content: Netflix (US), Amazon Prime Video, ART, OSN Streaming, Bahrain Sports, and more
Private Internet Access (PIA) lets you customize your security settings according to your needs. You can choose between AES 128-bit encryption (faster but less secure) or AES 256-bit encryption (slightly slower but more secure). The VPN also supports various security protocols — PPTP, OpenVPN, L2TP, IPsec, and WireGuard.
Your actual IP address remains hidden with PIA’s proven no-logs policy, DNS/IP leak protection, and kill switch. While testing PIA, I was also pleased to see that its MACE feature blocks annoying ads and malware. As P2P sharing is allowed on all its servers and the VPN offers decent downloading speeds, PIA is also an excellent choice for remaining anonymous while torrenting.
You don’t have to worry about missing your favorite shows while visiting Bahrain, as PIA’s extensive network of over 29, 650 servers in 70 countries makes accessing geo-restricted content easy. Although I couldn’t unblock BBC iPlayer, I accessed my Netflix US and Amazon Prime accounts without effort.
Even though PIA offers various security options, first-time users can start straight away with its preconfigured settings. The VPN can also be used on up to 10 devices at the same time and works with all popular operating systems, including Firestick devices. So, you can secure all your devices at home with only 1 subscription.
You can try PIA using it’s 30-day money-back guarantee and claim a refund if you’re not satisfied.

5. PrivateVPN — Reliably Fast Servers to Avoid Speed Throttling
Server speed and location: Breakneck speeds on 100 servers in 60 countries
Security capability: High-end encryption and multiple security protocols
Data privacy: Zero logs policy and Perfect Forward Secrecy
Use PrivateVPN’s unlimited bandwidth and fast servers to bypass ISPs throttling your speed. Because the VPN buys its Internet capacity directly from the IP transit provider, you get the fastest connection speeds possible. When I tested PrivateVPN servers far away in North America, I barely noticed a speed reduction. Even after connecting the maximum 6 devices, I watched videos in HD without delays.
Although the VPN only has 100 servers, its network is spread across 60 countries to quickly bypass geoblocks. Avoiding VPN blocks is made even easier with PrivateVPN’s Stealth Mode masking your VPN traffic as regular web traffic.
PrivateVPN safeguards your online activity with AES 256-bit encryption, a kill switch (available for Windows, Android, and Mac), and DNS/IPv6/WebRTC leak protection. You also have the option to choose which security protocol you want to implement — OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP, IKEv2, and IPSec.
To prevent hackers from accessing your past or future browsing activities, PrivateVPN uses Perfect Forward Secrecy. This feature provides you with a unique encryption key for every new online session.
Although the VPN’s head office is in Sweden and falls under the 14-Eyes Alliance jurisdiction, you don’t have to worry about your privacy, as PrivateVPN follows a strict no-logs policy. The only information PrivateVPN will store is your email address when you sign up.
PrivateVPN’s live chat support is available 22 hours a day and consists of a team of developers who can help you with any issue. Feel free to try all PrivateVPN features for 30 days using its money-back guarantee.

Tips on How to Choose the Best VPN for Bahrain
Use my below testing criteria to help you find the best VPN for your situation:
Strong security and privacy features. To keep your online data protected, choose a VPN with a strict no-logs policy and AES 256-bit encryption. Also prevent accidental data exposure with a VPN that has a kill switch and DNS/IP leak protection.
Global server coverage. Some websites and services are blocked in Bahrain. When you visit the country and want to unblock services and apps you usually access at home, like VoIP, you need a VPN with a global network.
Fast connections. Using any VPN will slightly slow down your internet connection due to the encryption. However, if your ISP is intentionally throttling your speed, a VPN (like the ones on my list) can overcome this, and you can stream, game, and browse without interruption.
Great user experience. Although VPNs use advanced technology and some complex methods for guarding your data and identity, using them shouldn’t be rocket science. All the VPNs on this list are easy to install and use.
Proven money-back guarantee. Finding the right VPN can be complicated. Choosing a VPN with a money-back guarantee gives you confidence that you can return it for a full refund if you’re not 100% happy.

FAQs on VPNs in Bahrain
Are VPNs legal in Bahrain?
Yes, you can legally use a VPN in Bahrain and will need it if you want to anonymously access content from your home country while visiting. You might want to download a VPN before entering Bahrain, as I found that the websites of some VPNs are blocked in the country. I recommend ExpressVPN, as it’s highly reliable for bypassing geo-restrictions and offers the most advanced security features to help keep your identity and data private.
Why do you need a VPN for security in Bahrain?
A VPN allows you to stay anonymous online and freely access the internet. Many websites and services are blocked, including messaging apps, social media platforms, and news sites (like Telegram, Skype, Viber, and Al Jazeera). The government is known to use spyware to monitor its citizens, and there have been cases of citizens getting fined or even arrested for something they’ve posted online. If you want your online activity to remain private while in Bahrain, using a VPN is a must. I suggest using a VPN with a strict no-logs policy and AES 256-bit encryption.
Can you use a free VPN for Bahrain?
I would strongly advise against using a free VPN for Bahrain. Some free VPNs put your data at risk by selling it to third-party advertisers. Also, most free VPNs limit features (like server availability and security) so that you are forced to subscribe to their paid versions. If you’re looking for an affordable VPN, you might want to choose a VPN with a money-back guarantee so you can try all its features risk-free.
The Bottom Line
To protect your data from prying eyes in Bahrain, you need a VPN with robust security features that won’t collect or share personally identifiable information. Plus, If you want fast, unrestricted access to the internet while visiting Bahrain, you need a VPN with many servers worldwide.
I recommend ExpressVPN, as it’s the fastest and most secure VPN I’ve tested. You can try ExpressVPN with confidence (it’s backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee).

4 Best VPNs for Dedicated / Static IP Address | RestorePrivacy

4 Best VPNs for Dedicated / Static IP Address | RestorePrivacy

Many people are looking for a VPN that offers a dedicated or static IP address. In this guide we’ll examine the best VPNs for a static IP that we have thoroughly tested — and also some to avoid. Using a dedicated IP VPN comes with some great advantages, as well as a few drawbacks, as we’ll show you below.
First, let’s start out with some terminology. In this guide, I’ll be using the terms “dedicated IP” and “static IP” interchangeably. Ultimately, I’m just referring to an IP address that only you will be using with your VPN service. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s examine the reasons for using a dedicated IP VPN.
Here are the top reasons for using a VPN with a static IP address:
You won’t have to share the IP address with other VPN users, who might be committing fraud or shady business with the same IP you’ll be mize CAPTCHA authentication, which is usually triggered with multiple users behind the same dedicated IP is less likely to be blocked by services, such as banks, streaming platforms, and various will always appear to be in the same emails will probably not get stuck or sent to spam, which sometimes happens with shared VPN IP addresses (used by email spammers) a secure access point to remote servers, which are accessible through the static IP curely access home servers, NAS, FTP, and other resources.
Normally, when you connect to a VPN server, you use an IP address that is shared by other users. While this can be good for privacy (mixing traffic with others), it also creates problems. When spammers and fraudsters use these shared IP addresses, it can cause massive headaches for all the other VPN users: blocked emails, websites blocking access, and more.
Using a dedicated IP address with your VPN service is the best way to solve these problems.
Here are the best VPNs with a dedicated / static IP address:
1. NordVPN – Best VPN for static IP address

NordVPN offers an impressive lineup of servers around the world and reliable apps for all major operating systems and devices. Here are some of the features you get with NordVPN:

In terms of performance, NordVPN is consistently one of the fastest VPNs we have tested. This can be seen in different comparison tests, such as the NordVPN vs IPVanish comparison. NordVPN’s speeds are bolstered by the WireGuard VPN protocol. This new protocol delivers much faster speeds than legacy protocols, along with upgraded security. Below we were able to get 445 Mbps download speeds with NordVPN using the WireGuard protocol.
NordVPN is the fastest VPN service we have tested.
If you want to stream media, NordVPN has you covered. It supports all major Netflix regional libraries. It’s also a great choice if you need a VPN for Hulu, BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime, and more. While streaming media may work with a dedicated IP VPN in some cases, you’ll want to check with the service first if there’s a specific program or website you really need to access. In the case of NordVPN, it supports the largest library of content available.
In terms of server selection and security, NordVPN leads the pack. They currently have over 5, 100 servers spread across 60 countries. NordVPN runs all servers in RAM-disk mode without hard drives. This ensures no data can ever be stored (or retrieved) from any server. Lastly, NordVPN is now rolling out self-owned (colocated) servers for their entire network with 10 Gbps bandwidth channels to further improve performance.

3. TorGuard – Static IP in many locations
VPNTorGuardBased inUSALogsNo logsPrice$5. 00/pportEmailRefund7
Another good VPN that offers dedicated IP addresses is TorGuard. TorGuard is a US-based VPN service that is popular with people who use a VPN for torrenting. It is a service that is known for fast speeds, and it also offers a variety of other add-ons, such as encrypted email services, proxies, and streaming bundles.
TorGuard performed well in all tests for the TorGuard review, although it also has a few drawbacks. The main drawback with TorGuard is that it’s based in the United States, which is not an ideal privacy jurisdiction (Five Eyes). On a positive note, however, it is a no logs VPN provider with a solid track record.
In our tests we found TorGuard to perform reasonably well — but there are some drawbacks. The VPN apps are clunky and confusing. We also found that it does not perform as fast as other leading VPNs, which you can see in the TorGuard vs NordVPN comparison.
TorGuard static IP cost
The cost for a TorGuard static IP is $54. 99 per year. There are numerous locations around the world to choose from. TorGuard offers static (dedicated) IPs in the following locations:

Another great VPN that offers a dedicated IP address is VPNArea. This Bulgaria-based VPN provider offers a nice selection of apps for all major operating systems and devices. VPNArea also lets you share your account with others, and gives you up to six connections, with unlimited bandwidth.
Overall, VPNArea did very well in testing for the VPNArea review. It is a good VPN for privacy-focused users with a strict no logs policy, Bulgaria jurisdiction, secure encryption, and excellent speeds throughout the server network. Additionally, VPNArea is one of the best Netflix VPNs with dedicated streaming servers.
VPNArea dedicated IP cost
The cost of a dedicated IP address varies depending on which location you choose. The price of the dedicated IP address is for one year of access, which you can easily renew. VPNArea offers the following dedicated IP locations, with the prices displayed below:

Should you get a dedicated IP VPN?
There are many different advantages and use cases for using a dedicated IP address through your VPN service.
However, the main reason is to simply avoid the disadvantages of using a shared IP address. Unfortunately, shared IP addresses are often blacklisted, which is why a dedicated IP address is a good alternative. Here are some other benefits of using a dedicated IP VPN service:
Web browsing – Browsing the internet behind a dedicated IP address will often alleviate hassle and frustration. Many websites block IP addresses that are shared by other users. This is generally a fraud prevention measure, since multiple users on the same IP address may be a sign of fraudulent activity. You probably won’t have these problems when using a dedicated IP address that’s assigned only to you.
Authentication – Perhaps the most annoying hassle with VPNs is having to constantly go through authentication measures. Google’s annoying reCAPTCHA will often be triggered when numerous people are using the same IP address (shared IP addresses). Additionally, logging back in to your email or other online accounts will be a lot easier with a dedicated IP address.
Streaming – Streaming services, such as Netflix, Amazon and Hulu also block shared IP addresses. If they see numerous people accessing their services from the same IP, it will quickly get blocked (if it’s not already on a blocklist). Aside from a dedicated IP address, there are also VPN services that implement various solutions to unlock all major streaming sites, including Netflix (see ExpressVPN for example).
Banking – As a protection against fraud, there are many banking and financial institutions that block VPN IP addresses. Using a dedicated IP address will most likely get around this problem, since it has probably not been flagged.
Gaming – Gaming behind a shared IP address is often a problem, which will result in blocked access or constant authentication requests. A dedicated IP address through your VPN would likely solve this, as it won’t trigger authentication. We discuss this more in our guide on the best VPNs for gaming.
Now let’s take a quick look at some of the different static IP VPN services you may want to avoid – for various reasons.
5 Static IP VPNs to avoid
There are a few other VPN providers that offer static IP addresses, but it may be best to avoid them at this time for reasons discussed below.
1. PureVPN – PureVPN offers dedicated IP addresses, but it did quite poorly in the PureVPN review. Some of the issues identified in the review were:
DNS leaksSlow speedsConnection problems with many servers
Another interesting development with PureVPN is that they were caught logging customer data and handing the information over to the FBI (US authorities). This all transpired despite PureVPN’s “zero log policy”, which they still claim to have on their website. See the PureVPN logs article for details.
2. Ivacy – Ivacy appears to be a re-branded (white label) version of PureVPN. The parent company looks to be Gaditek, which is based in Pakistan. Given PureVPN’s history of cooperating with US authorities, it may also be best to avoid Ivacy.
3. CyberGhost – CyberGhost is a VPN service that is based in Romania and owned by a company that has a history of producing malware (Kape Technologies). Aside from all the performance problems I found in my CyberGhost review, there are some questionable issues with the parent company as well. We also identified connection problems in tests for the CyberGhost vs NordVPN comparison.
4. VPN Unlimited – VPN Unlimited is a USA VPN service that offers dedicated IP addresses. Unfortunately, it did not do well in the VPN Unlimited review. Some of the issues identified were:
IP address leaksFaulty kill switch (traffic exposed whenever switching servers)Bad privacy policyBased in USA (Five Eyes)Slow speeds
5. Windscribe – Last up is Windscribe, a Canadian VPN. Overall, Windscribe isn’t too bad, but it also was not recommended in my review, for the following reasons:
Slow speedsBased in Canada (Five Eyes)Contradictory “no logs” claimsSlow support
Our Windscribe review has more details. Additionally, in 2021, we discovered the Windscribe security breach that put the VPN’s user at risk of traffic surveillance. This is not a VPN we recommend using for any situation.
Now let’s examine some disadvantages of using a dedicated IP address with your VPN.
Disadvantages of a dedicated IP VPN
Ok, we’ve covered the advantages and benefits of using a dedicated IP VPN service, but there are also some disadvantages.
Using a dedicated IP address with a VPN is indeed a double-edged sword.
While there are benefits of having your own static IP address that only you use, it also means that you are not blending in with other users on the same VPN IP address. In other words, your traffic is not being mixed with all the other people using the same IP address at the same time as you.
This leads to a lower level of online anonymity, even though you are still much better off than not using a VPN at all. Shared IP addresses may be a hassle, but they are good for online privacy.
One simple solution here is to only use the dedicated IP address when you need it, then use shared IP addresses for everything else. You can accomplish this with any of the recommended VPNs above.
Within the VPN application, you can select whether you want to use your dedicated IP address or a shared IP address with other users.
Who needs a static IP address with a VPN?
Perhaps you want a VPN simply to hide your IP address. With a dedicated IP, you can not only hide your real IP address, but appear to be the same person in the same location at all times.

Not sharing an IP address with other “bad” usersNot getting blocked by websitesNot having to deal with authentication issuesHaving a secure access point for servers and other resources
Most VPNs make it easy to select your static IP server directly in the VPN client. This is the case for NordVPN, which allows you to select your static IP server with just one click.
