Hello,
My idea today is simple. Add a command /ip which is used /ip to get the IP the player last used ON YOUR SERVER. This way if you want to check to make sure that someone isn’t “alting” you could check their IPs. This is for vanilla servers, as you can already do this in Bukkit. This is also for admins without console access.
Check out my server (s. ) and its website ()!

Ummm…..
Are you a stalker or something? Why exactly do you want to know people’s IPs?

A smart guess? Better block lists for griefers on a server.
this feature IS already in the game, as _0creeper0_ said, if you want to ban someone, there’s already ip-ban, though most people only do “/ban”
#7
This is pretty pointless as it’s super easy to use a proxy which would show a fake IP to the server owner.
Check out my Bukkit plugins on PlanetMinecraft!

There is a word called DDos. If you didn’t know it consists of spamming packages to a certain ip. There is a command in game called /seen (player). This allows you to check what the players ip is also.
But i disagree with /ip!

Your suggestions really seem to lean on deterring players away, or getting info from them to make that task easier.

And think about the amount of DDoSing that will occur due to this command. Besides, it’s not hard to use a VPN…
No point at all.
No support.
Are you a stalker or something? Why exactly do you want to know people’s IPs? To check someone’s IP, look in the server console. When someone joins, it will show his IP.
If you wanted it so anyone can get anyone’s IP, it WILL be abused.
Already implemented, no support.
The point of getting the IP is to make sure someone isn’t using alt accounts. It is for staff without console access on vanilla servers that dont have /seen. This would be an OP only command. I don’t want staff to go IP banning players for no reason just because they want to see the players IP. Also, I want to have staff find these when the player is offline.

What if they use VPNs or proxies to change their IP? And I’m pretty sure that if your IP gets banned from a server, and you make a new account, you will still be banned because the server has blocked your IP.
Faith in humanity lowered.
#13
Yes, but I want staff to be able to check for alts of players without just IP banning everyone. Also, this way you can IP ban offline players without looking in console for the IP.
#14
You didn’t understand my post. I said if you got IP-banned from a server once, even if you created an alt account you still couldn’t log in the server because your IP is banned.
#15
I understand, but not everyone needs to be IP banned once they are banned. It only causes more problems if they are allowed back on. Yes, what you said was right, but it wasn’t the point of the /IP command.
#16
I don’t think people would create another account just because they were banned from one server. And there are servers that get so many players at once; it would be incredibly tedious to check everyone’s IP.
Besides, why would a server ban their account instead of their IP, while they disallow alts? It doesn’t seem very smart.

/seen is a plugin command, not a vanilla server command. There’s also /ipm checklastaddress and such from my plugin No support.
Obviously it’s not perfect, but it’s really annoying currently to ip-ban someone. And most people don’t know how to use VPNs… in fact, I don’t even know where to get one for free. You can’t even ip-ban people without looking at the console without a plugin, and that needs to change. I made an entire plugin to deal with this because I was sick of not being able to check the IP addresses of offline players.

No, it’s not easy to use (let alone find) a proxy that’ll let you send and receive traffic over any port you want. Most Minecraft players are probably 7-year-old kids.

Actually, you’re right. I forgot that the average Minecraft player is too young to be capable of using a proxy, lol

NO SUPPORT.
Here, the cons outweigh the pros. Honestly, if someone was going to make another IP just to grief on your server, they are DES-PER-ATE. xD
And secondly, too much room for abuse. This could be potentially dangerous, esp. for a children’s game.
Dr. Who, Divergent, Hunger Games, and coffee obsessed. And guess what? Peek in the spoiler.
I LIKED IT ALL BEFORE IT WAS COOL.

I don’t see what the cons or possibilities of abuse are. It’s just convenience.

There is no reason to add this hazardous operator hacking tool into a server.

You can already get a player’s IP address just looking at the log. In fact, every server of any kind (HTTP, SSH, etc) you connect to can get your IP address and store it if it wants to, and most of them do. You really can’t do that much with someone’s IP address other than blocking it. My IP address is already posted on various websites and IS the location of a website.
