I get about 4 to 5 full-size products and sample products to review a month. I’m getting the first exclusive look at up and coming products not yet on the market. Also, I am able to test new products for free and keep the products too!
I’ve tested, Electronics, Toys, Food Products, Beauty Products, Household Products, Baby Products, Adult Products, Clothes, Websites, and so much more!
Why Does Brands Need Consumers to Join their Paid Product Testing Studies?
The reason for paid product testing is that brands would like to know what consumers think about their newest products they’re developing to be sent to stores, but before they do that they need consumers like you to give their opinions. Having consumers giving insights about the brand’s new product development will help them save time and money just in case the product doesn’t do well, needing required changes.
How Does Product Testing Work? How Can You Become a Product Tester?
First, you’ll need to sign up with a market research firm that offers product testing at home (Product Testing Panels List is Below). Once you do this, the market research firm will send you screener emails to fill out to see if you’ll qualify for their current product test jobs.
When you fill out their screener survey, they’ll let you know at the end if you are eligible or not. For example, let say the brand is looking for people to test out their new makeup, if you don’t use cosmetic products then you won’t qualify. If you do, then you’ll be eligible for the product testing job.
Once you get the approval to test, the brand will ask for your address to send you the product to evaluate for a week or two. Then, they’ll follow up with you with an email asking for feedback about the product you’ve tested. When you’re done, you get paid! WOO HOO! Simple right?

How Much Can You Make Being a Product Tester?
What’s great is that you can test products and keep them too! So, test products, keep it, and get paid! A win-win!! You’ll feel good that you had a voice and played a part in the latest product creation.
How much you get paid varies. I’ve been paid anywhere from $3-$500. There was a time I tested a website in beta format for HBO (now called HBO-GO), and they paid me $100 for doing it! All I had to do is test out their website, watch movies, then give my feedback. Easy money!
So when you register, make sure to fill out your profile, that’s a critical step to your success in testing products. You’ll get the proper product testing opportunities that fit your demographic.
Honestly, when it comes to product testing, and completing paid online surveys, it’s really about how much time you put into it. The more you do, the more money you make, it’s that simple. Also, you’ll start receiving a lot of paid product testing opportunities in your inbox if the companies sees you’re an active member, even get a chance to join high paying focus groups, join webcam studies, and video studies.

Steps on Becoming a Successful Product Tester
1. Create an email dedicated to your product testing invitations, so you’ll not miss an opportunity to test products from leading brands. I like to use Gmail for my emails. Also, when you sign up for a market research panel, make sure you confirm your membership.
2. Complete product testing surveys as soon as possible before invite fills up and no longer needs new people for their product testing assignment.
3. Always tell the truth! Brands need truthful people to evaluate their products. If you lie, companies will not know if they need to make any improvements to their products. Also, you can get yourself removed from their program, and not get paid.
4. Do not speed through a survey that the brands send you. Product testing Panels could not use your survey if they noticed that you rushed through it. Your inquiry will look like your answers are untruthful and cannot be used which will lead you to get removed from program and money you earned is forfeited.
5. Sign up for more than one product testing program. The more product testing websites you sign up for, the more chances of being invited to join current product testing campaigns.
6. Always fill out your demographic information with each product testing website you’re signed up with. This helps market research firms know which product testing surveys are better suited for you, and more than likely you’ll qualify for.
7. Never expose information about new products you’ve seen on a survey to anyone. That can lead you getting kicked out the program and forfeiting your payment.
If you’re a blogger looking to review products and blog about it, I have listed paid sponsorship opportunities.

Did you know companies will sometimes send free products for people to try at home?
It’s true.
Product testing is a way for companies to get real user feedback on a product or service before pushing it to market. To do this, companies ship you a free physical product to use in exchange for a candid review. At the end of the testing period, they typically let you keep the item. Some might even pay you in cash.
But how can you find sites that will pay you to test products at home? How do you know if they’re legit?
Fortunately, there are a number of reputable companies looking for users to test products and give their honest feedback.
How to Get Paid Testing Products
To make money testing products, you’ll want to register with several sites that offer paid product testing gigs. Each site will ask you to fill out a short form with key demographic information which helps companies match you with relevant products to review.
How much you earn testing products depends on the number and types of programs you choose to join. The more programs you join, the more ways you’ll be able to make money testing products.
1. Vindale Research
Vindale Research, best known for paying users to take surveys, also offers users the option to earn money testing products. To get started, you’ll need to apply and select “product tester” on the application. After that, it’s a little unclear how the product testing program works and how much you can earn. However, it does pay users up to $50 per survey they take, making it one of the higher-paying ways to make money online from home.
It also offers a $1 sign-up bonus to new users, and you can cash out via PayPal or physical check once you’ve earned $50.
Visit our Vindale Research review for more about the site’s features and other money-making opportunities the company offers.

2. Homescan
Nielsen, most well-known for polling American TV watchers about their viewing habits, operates a handful of sub-brands, including the Homescan program. This is separate from its Computer and Mobile panel, which pays users for letting Nielsen track their internet usage.
When you sign up for free to become a product tester with Homescan, you’ll receive a handheld scanner or access to its mobile app. When you shop, scan the barcode of the products you buy to earn points. You can also participate in surveys to earn additional points, and you’re automatically entered into quarterly, monthly, and weekly sweepstakes.
The Homescan program does not pay in cash, but you can redeem the points you earn for gift cards and merchandise.
3. Pinecone Research
Pinecone Research focuses on product tests for items that haven’t been introduced to the general public. It pays via points in exchange for completing questionnaires about the products the company sends to you. You can then redeem your points for cash, gift cards, or brand-name merchandise.
Although the company is reputable and clear about how it pays (flat-rate of $3 per survey), panel positions aren’t always open. If your household information doesn’t match what it’s looking for at the time, you’ll receive a notification that there are no openings available.
The company will keep your information for a few weeks in case a spot opens up, but if it doesn’t, you may need to reapply.

For each survey complete, you’ll receive points that can be cashed out via PayPal. You can also donate your rewards to charity or use your points to enter various sweepstakes for a chance to win cash and other prizes.
Every month or so you’ll be asked to take a screener survey so it knows which opportunities to send your way.

That might mean smelling fragrances or trying makeup and other self-care products. Other opportunities include participating in online surveys, discussion groups and forums, focus groups, and various panels. Anyone can join, and it’ll email you if you’re eligible to participate in a test. And if you live in the NYC area, you may be eligible to participate in one of the company’s “dedicated sensory panels. ”
Its site is sparse on payment details, but prepaid Visa Gift Cards seem to be the most common.

If you’re good at noticing little details when visiting a website, you might be able to get paid to test websites by signing up for UserTesting. To get started, create an account, download its software, visit websites or apps, and answer questions about your experience.
How many websites you can product test depends on how well your demographic background lines up with the target user of the site. For example, if Facebook is trying to test a new feature with 62-year-old men in Alaska and you’re a 31-year-old woman in Florida, you probably won’t see that test in your inbox.
You’ll need a reliable internet connection, microphone, and a way to download its software. You’ll also need to be able to concisely describe what you like and don’t like about the website.
Tests take 20 minutes each, and you’ll earn $10 per survey paid via PayPal.

And to do this they heavily rely on hearing the thoughts of real consumers like you!
In exchange for your time, expect to receive free products to test at home which you can then keep (or sell online) and even cash.
What rewards can you get from free product testing?
Are the rewards really worth the time and effort? It depends on what you’re after, but often they are.
After all, if the research companies don’t offer something of fair value to entice the panel members they need, they wouldn’t be in business very long.
Having said that, naturally, the quality of rewards does differ across product testing sites (which we’ll come to later).
Popular product testing categories:
Technology (e. g. Apple iPad)
Food and drink
Cosmetics and toiletries
Books and magazines
Clothing and footwear
Some sites will let you keep products, whereas others may pay you in Amazon vouchers or cash.
Recently we came across an opportunity to test a brand new luxury mattress. Not only was the mattress yours to keep, but you also got to keep a new Fitbit, and you got paid £600 for the privilege!
A few of the things we’ve received from product testing
We asked members of our student deals Facebook group what they had managed to bag. There was a whole range (and value! ) of goods on offer with different product testing companies.
I’ve product tested so many things. Most expensive was electrical beauty gadgets from Philips totalling a grand! – Lisa
I received and got to keep bottles of Lynx Signature Aftershave, before they were available in shops (along with more single-use samples to pass onto friends to generate ‘buzz’). – Dale
Find out what sites Lisa and Dale use in our list of the best product testing companies below.
There’s no guarantee you will be sent something to test. Typically companies select a sample from their panel at random that match certain consumer profile criteria for a new product.
The best product testing websites
We’ve tried plenty of sites over the years, but there are a select few that are legitimate and deliver what they promise.
Here’s our list of the best opportunities to have products sent to you to review. Maximise your chances of being selected for a panel by joining as many of these as you can.
Toluna
Review: Toluna is pretty much the best site for getting free products and rewards in exchange for your views. Simply create a free account then you can choose to start testing products or select various polls to answer.
How it works: To receive free products for testing, you can visit the ‘testing’ area of the site (under rewards), and apply to test products. If you are chosen to test the product then it will be sent out to you.
You get to keep the items, in exchange for filling in a short survey about what you thought of the product.
Example testing items: The goods on offer change all the time, but often include shower gel, toothpaste and cosmetics.
Likelihood of receiving products: Toluna generally have around 200–500 of each product to test and testers are chosen at random each time.
UPDATE: The Toluna testing area is frequently suspended as they shift their focus towards general paid online surveys (read our review of making money on Toluna). Create an account and keep an eye on their blog and emails for updates!

UserTesting
Review: UserTesting is awesome because it lets you test websites for money. Although you won’t be testing physical products, it’s really fun, pays well and the range of sites you get to test keeps you entertained.
How it works: You sign up and complete a test review. If that all goes well you are then sent sites to review from time to time.
You then get paid $10 to your PayPal for every review you do, with each one only taking around 20 minutes.
Example testing items: Just websites (which you don’t get to keep… ).
Likelihood of receiving products: UserTesting is a trusted site and the number of test reviews you can do on there depends on factors like your quality rating and demographic.

Pinecone
Review: Pinecone is an excellent and well trusted survey and product testing site, and one of the best paying too.
The only problem with them is that invites are hard to come by and we only get them every now and then (check via the link below).
How it works: You can sign up to Pinecone to answer surveys, and from time to time you might be asked to test a product.
Example testing items: Beauty products, food, drink & more.
Likelihood of receiving products: The Pinecone products are a little more limited than other sites, but as you have fewer users to contend with, the chances of getting a product are actually higher.

Clicks Research
Review: Clicks Research work with a whole host of big name brands, including Marks and Spencer, The Body Shop, Boots and Sanctuary.
What’s more, aside from testing products, you can also complete surveys to earn Click Points. Once you’ve earned 2, 500 points, you’ll earn £25, and as each survey pays between 25–200 points, this could amount to anything between 12 and 100 surveys.
How it works: Once you’ve signed up to the site, take part in as many trials and surveys as possible. The more you complete, the higher your rating and the more tasks you’ll be invited to take part in – and if you do so on time, your rating will be even higher.
Example testing items: Given the brands that Clicks Research works with, it’s no surprise that users have recently tested products including ready meals, slimming shakes, cosmetic products and chocolate.
Likelihood of receiving products: Like we said, your chances of receiving products increase if you complete more surveys and trials. And if you’re still struggling to get invitations, Clicks Research recommend keeping your profile as up-to-date as possible.

Alba Science
Review: As the name might suggest, Alba Science will typically send you cosmetics to test. The products they send are often pretty high quality, so if you have expensive taste, this could be one worth signing up for!
Alba Science also conduct paid clinical trials, which you’ll need to attend their Edinburgh office to take part in. These tend to be for products which aren’t quite ready to go on sale, or that make claims which need to be tested (e. “visibly smoother skin in eight hours”).
How it works: Sign up to Alba Science as a home tester and check out the list of current trials on the site. New opportunities are posted all the time, but it’s always worth following them on Facebook and Twitter to keep ahead of the curve.
Example testing items: When we checked, Alba Science were running a product test for pre-glued lashes – and other than that, you can expect to receive other cosmetic products like moisturiser, shampoo and even toilet roll.
Likelihood of receiving products: Alba Science didn’t have too many trials running when we checked, but we’ve seen plenty of reports of users receiving all kinds of products, so it’s certainly possible!

i-Say
Review: i-Say is one of the UK’s leading market research companies, and they’re more than happy to reward you for your opinions.
How it works: It’s simply a case of filling in surveys and letting them know what you think about certain products, or what your typical buying habits are.
Sometimes the surveys require i-Say to send you a product to test.
Likelihood of receiving products: We’re yet to be sent any products from i-Say but have earned a lot through answering their surveys, so it’s still well worth signing up.

Crowdville
Review: Crowdville is the new kid on the product testing block – in the UK, at least. They’re already well-established in Italy, and have a unique spin on product testing: apps. If you love discovering the latest and greatest smartphone apps, you should definitely consider getting paid for it.
How it works: Once you’ve signed up to Crowdville and completed your profile, you need to join a ‘mission’ (a product test, to you and me). They’ll send you all the details from there!
They even have a step-by-step guide showing you how to test the apps – how to take screenshots, report a bug, fill in a survey, and all the rest.
Example testing items: Apps.
Likelihood of receiving products: As Crowdville are so new, we can’t quite say how often you’ll be selected for tests. Still, there’s no harm in signing up and finding out, right?

BzzAgent
Review: This is the service that Save the Student reader Dale was referring to above. Dale did a pretty good job of explaining how it works on our Facebook group, so we’ll leave this one to him:
BzzAgent is quite a good company. You can get all sorts from toiletries to food to gadgets etc. They send you products to keep in exchange for small things – for example an honest review, or a post on Instagram or Twitter about it. You’ve gotta stay active on it though, otherwise your score drops and businesses won’t find you!
When I tested the aftershave, all they asked in return was that I posted an unbiased review on the product. Then, for me to get a higher ‘BzzScore’ (a higher BzzScore improves the chance of companies approaching you in future), they also asked me to post a photo on Instagram, Twitter etc. to generate more buzz!

Product testing tips
Know your odds
It would be easy to assume that just because you’ve signed up to test a product, you’ll automatically receive it. Unfortunately this is often not the case.
Most companies set aside around £5, 000 – £10, 000 of products every month to test, and because most of these sites have 1, 000s of users, they can’t send a product to everyone.
It’s best to think of it as entering a competition each time you apply to test a product!
Be selective about the products you test
It’s easy to get carried away and sign up for every free product you can find, but you’re just wasting your own time.
If you have no real interest in receiving the latest copy of a baby and parenting magazine, don’t fill in the form!
Always follow up with the company
Never forget that these companies are giving you free stuff because they want to know what you think of them. If you forget to send your reviews, they probably won’t send you anything again.
It usually only takes a few minutes to give your feedback, so make sure you do it.
Don’t give up after one day
If you sign up to a product testing website then never return, you’re not likely to receive anything. Make sure you check back on a regular basis to see what’s available.
On sites such as Toluna, you can even chat with fellow testers. If you prove that you’re reliable, have a fully updated profile and that you plan to stick around, you’re more likely to receive the best products.
Set up a product testing email
If you don’t want your personal emails to get in the way of your product testing emails then we recommend setting up a separate email account.
You can also use this ‘alias’ email for competitions, survey sites and any other times you’re unsure about handing over your personal email.
