The Sneaker Club

Meet Zack Moss of The Sneaker Club in Downtown – SDVoyager

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zack Moss.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The Sneaker Club came about on May 7, 2016. After I closed a previous business I opened a year earlier, I knew immediately that I wanted to open up another one. I was brainstorming through ideas & things I was passionate about and then it all of a sudden hit me… SHOES.
I have been collecting shoes ever since I was in high school whether it was waiting in line overnight for a shoe release or flying to a different city just to get a specific pair I wanted. After doing research about the sneaker community in San Diego, I felt like it could use something a little different and that something different was The Sneaker Club.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After being involved in many start-up businesses previous to The Sneaker Club including one I opened and ran myself, I knew starting a business comes with many challenges & ups & downs. The beauty about opening up a new business though is that it challenges you to think outside the box & lets you be as creative as you want to be.
One specific struggle the shop deals with currently is inventory, which will come with time. I started off with five pairs of shoes from my own collection & now have had hundreds of shoes come in & out of the shop so I know the shop is on the right path.
Please tell us about The Sneaker Club.
The Sneaker Club is known for Buying, Selling, Trading, Customization, and Restoration. Two things that set us apart from most other’s is that we provide customization & restoration. Whether you have shoes from the early 1990’s that are falling apart, those new pair of white shoes you bought are dirty already, and/or you want to create a custom 1 of a kind shoe, we are a one-stop shop that can help people out with all their needs.
Our slogan at the shop is that “It is bigger than shoes” meaning that at The Sneaker Club we see the bigger picture & realize we need to utilize our platform by giving back. We teamed up with a foundation called Souls4Soles, which helps people in need receive free pairs of shoes for every dollar they receive. Therefore, for every shoe that is purchased at the shop, we donate some of the proceedings to them & that is something we are very proud of & not too many shops do.
What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
I have many big plans for the shop, but just like to take things day by day. All I can do & hope for is that the shop continues to grow into one of the go-to sneaker boutiques in San Diego. Once we accomplish that, then I would like to expand the business into other cities & markets to share my passion with the world.
The Sneaker Club is blessed to be surrounded by family, friends, & supporters who continue every day to help TSC grow as a business. I wish I could name every single person who has supported us along the way, but the list would be never-ending. Three people that stand out to help make The Sneaker Club turn into one of San Diego’s top shoe boutiques are Anthony Newsome, Carl Flamer, & Cody Kale.
Without them, The Sneaker Club wouldn’t be around. I can’t thank them & everyone who supports the shop enough. Whether our supporters spend their money with us or not, it means the world to us at TSC for people just taking time out of their day to check us out.
