You finally find the free and safe torrent you’ve been dying to download, but the download is taking hours or even days. The frustration can cause severe damage to your laptop screen. There must be a better way, right? Yes! There’s a better way.
Before you pounce your device with a coffee mug: there are some tweaks and tips to help you get faster uTorrent downloads. Read on to find other options for downloading torrents, audiobook torrents, and tv torrents.
Increase the number of seeders and peersOne of the first and fastest things you can do is check the number of peers and seeders for the specific file. Typically, the download will be more immediate if more people share the file after they’ve downloaded it. When downloading torrent files with thousands of seeders and peers, the golden rule is only to use reputable sources.
You can quickly increase the number of contributors as follows:
Open the torrent with uTorrent and start the download.
Navigate to the torrent you’re downloading and right-click on it.
From the drop-down menu, choose ‘Properties. ’
Copy the trackers on uTorrent and paste them into the ‘Trackers’ tab.
You’ll see the number of seeders and peers increase and typically your download speed too.
Increase the file-specific bandwidthWhen you’re downloading multiple torrents simultaneously, you can allot more bandwidth to the one you want to finish faster.
– Right-click on the file that you want to download first.
– Hover the mouse pointer over the selection “Bandwidth Allocation. ”
– On the side menu, choose the option “High. ”
– Now, go through this process with the other torrents that are downloading. Change those to “Low” instead of “High. ”
Change more bandwidth settingsYou can also increase uTorrent download speeds by using the bandwidth settings.
– choose the selection named “Options. ”
– Click on “Preferences. ”
– Find the tab marked “Bandwidth. ” Use these parameters:
Set the maximum upload rate to 14.
Set the maximum download rate to 1800.
Set the global maximum number of connections to 2329.
Set the maximum number of connected peers per torrent to 257.
Set the number of upload slots per torrent to 14.
Connect directly to the seedsThe seeder’s firewall settings can often inhibit the seeding process, meaning you aren’t getting any download data on some seeders. It isn’t necessary to reconfigure the seeder’s firewall settings, however. What you can do instead is to allow your uTorrent client to receive the data directly with no firewalls to interfere.
– Select “Options” and then choose “Preferences. ”
– Go to the option marked “Connections” and check to see that the option “Enable UPnP Port Mapping” is checked.
– This option allows you to avoid the firewall and connect directly with the seeder, speeding up the download process.
Download via a direct, wired Internet connectionWe’ve all become used to the convenience of Wi-Fi, but a wireless connection can be dramatically slower than a direct or wired ethernet connection. If you have the option, plug your computer directly into your modem or router with an ethernet cable to get the fasted possible download speed.
Don’t queue up too many torrents at once
Sometimes downloading torrents can feel like being a kid in a candy shop. Everything looks terrific, and you want to grab it all. However, loading up too many items into your download queue at once will slow all of them down. You can manage the number of active downloads in the queue section of your preferences and set it to “1” to force one-by-one downloading of your course, your internet speed is also a contributing factor to how quickly you can download torrent files. If your speeds are prolonged, talk to your internet provider about a faster service package. You can test your internet speed here.

How To Make uTorrent Download Faster – TechJunkie

To many computer users, the word “torrent” has become associated with pirating. Sure enough, torrenting has earned a bad reputation for many, with the assumption that it is illegal to download any torrent. While it’s true that a lot of pirate sites use torrent to download and illegally distribute content, downloading torrents as a technology is a perfectly legitimate way to share large files online. In fact, there are many torrents out there that are totally legal to use. Sharing of large files using the BitTorrent protocol had gone on for years, long before software piracy became a massive issue. Large software distributions, like Linux OS packages, use torrents to get the software to its end is therefore important to realize that using BitTorrent or uTorrent (or any other torrenting client) is not illegal in and of itself. Using them will not, in and of itself, get you thrown in jail, banned by your ISP, or copyright trolled. However, if you use the protocol to share copyrighted media (and if you have bad luck or are careless), those things might happen. With that out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff. In this article, we will give you a brief tutorial on how to make uTorrent download faster. The examples here all use uTorrent, but if you use a different client, most of these procedures will still work. You just have to find the equivalent settings in your client. Attention All Streamers: Here’s a few facts for you about the potential dangers of streaming online while unprotected: Your ISP has a direct window into everything you view and stream on the web Your ISP is now LEGALLY allowed to sell that information about what you view Most ISPs don’t want to deal with lawsuits directly, so oftentimes they will pass along your viewing information to protect themselves, further compromising your privacy. The only way to protect your viewing and identity in the 3 above scenarios is by using a VPN. By streaming content directly through your ISP, you potentially expose everything you view on the internet to both them, as well as those who’s interest they might be protecting. A VPN protects that. Follow these 2 links and you’ll be streaming securely in no time: ExpressVPN is our VPN of choice. They are extremely fast and their security is top notch. The basic uTorrent app is free; although, there are premium versions available for Windows that add some bells and whistles. Subscription fees range from $4. 95 to $52. 46 per year. These are great if you want an ad-free and pro experience, but we can say that the free version is perfectly adequate for anyone who just wants to share some files. uTorrent isn’t the only torrent tracker available in the web, but it is one of the most popular. It has been around for years and is the torrent client choice for millions of people across the world. However, it isn’t well-optimized “out of the box”, and there are some things you can to do make it it through your firewallThe first thing you should do when installing uTorrent is to click yes when it asks you if you want to ‘Add an exception for uTorrent in Windows Firewall’. If you hit no or don’t use Windows Firewall, you still need to let uTorrent using Windows Firewall:Open uTorrent and select vigate to Connections and check the box next to ‘Add Windows Firewall exception’ your firewall software and allow uTorrent traffic to pass freely not be tempted to turn off your firewall when torrenting, as this opens your computer up to malware and all sorts of threats. If you use a router with firewall, you will need to configure this setting more or faster seeders and peersTorrenting works by distributing a file across dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of seeders and peers. Seeders are computers that have the complete file available for upload. Peers are computers that are still in the process of downloading the file. When a new peer joins the system and is looking for a file, the torrenting software breaks the file into many tiny chunks. The software then looks for peers that have already obtained the chunks that the new peer still needs, and if they have it, the other peers upload it to the new peer. If none of the peers have the chunk, then the system goes and gets it from one of the seeds (which have all the chunks) system keeps the seeds from being overwhelmed by requests, and once the peers collectively have all of the chunks of the file, then new peers joining can get the file very quickly because it is available from many different sources instead of just a few seeds. For this reason, the more seeds and the more peers a torrent already has, the quicker any new members of the network will be able to download the file. When a peer finishes downloading the entire file, it becomes another seed and can further enhance download rrent websites don’t actually keep the original file themselves. Instead, they have trackers, a file that describes all the chunks of the original file. The tracker also keeps track of how many seeds and peers are working with the specified file (which always starts with one seed, the original file owner). So when you go to a torrent website, it will show you how many seeds and how many peers are already working with the file. It’s almost always a good idea to select the torrent with the highest number of seeders and peers to get that file faster. Higher numbers also are a good general indicator that a particular torrent has high-quality locate the correct bandwidthWhile it might seem counter-intuitive, allocating too much bandwidth to torrents can slow them down. You need to get the ratio right if you are to get the most uTorrent and select vigate to Preferences and Connection. Check the box next to ‘Apply rate limit to transport overhead’ Maximum Number of Global Connections to Maximum Number of Peers Connected to Number of Upload Slots Per torrent to Maximum upload rate to the portPort allocation for uTorrent defaults to somewhere between 6881 and 6999. Most people know this, and most ISPs know it too. Accordingly, many ISPs throttle these ports so that torrenting traffic won’t burden their network. If your ISP throttles these ports, it makes sense to change them. The recommendation is to change the port to something over 10000 to avoid both throttling and conflicts within your uTorrent and select vigate to Preferences and the port to a number between 10000 and reamline queueingQueueing sets up several torrents to download one after the other. Setting this up correctly enables you to maximize throughput. It’s a small but very effective tweak. While your computer or phone is waiting for packets from one torrent, it can send out requests for packets from uTorrent and select vigate to Preferences and Maximum Number of Active Torrents to Maximum Number of Active Downloads to Seeding Global Minimum Ratio to ioritize a torrentMy final tips for speeding up uTorrent is to prioritize the download you want first. This gives that file first choice of bandwidth and resources so will download faster if the seeds and peers are capable of click a torrent within the main uTorrent Bandwidth Allocation and then click the other torrents you have in Bandwidth Allocation and then you don’t switch the others to low, nothing will happen as uTorrent will already be using all the resources allocated to more trackersRemember we talked about the tracker, the file that keeps track of who is seeding and who is downloading the underlying file? Well, you aren’t limited to just one tracker. You can tell uTorrent to check a whole list of trackers to find more seeds and peers. There are constant updates to the various lists of public trackers; that link is current as of March 2019. To use the list, copy the text of the list into your cut and paste buffer. Right-click the torrent name in uTorrent and select Properties. In the “trackers” section, paste the list and in a little while you’ll start seeing your seed and peer count go up, along with your download are just a few ways you can make uTorrent faster. As long as there are enough quality seeds and peers and you have everything set up correctly, your torrents should now come flying down. Any bottlenecks or slow downloads will be at the other end, not yours! Switching ClientsuTorrent used to be the go-to for anyone looking for a stable, easy-to-use client for their PC, but over the last decade, a number of issues have made it difficult to recommend. In 2010, uTorrent began including a Conduit Engine toolbar within its download utility, along with making the homepage and default search engine Conduit without consent. In 2011, uTorrent began including the Bing toolbar instead, before announcing a paid version of the application titled uTorrent Plus. Even worse, in 2012 (starting with uTorrent version 3. 2. 2), users began to see advertisements, along with “featured torrents” within the app, and while these could be disabled, it was a disappointing addition many others, uTorrent became unusable in March of 2015 when the program began bundling another application titled “Epic Scale, ” which mines cryptocurrencies called “Litecoin” in the background of your computer and gives that money to BitTorrent. Though this program has since been discontinued from being bundled with the software, for many, this was the final straw when it came to using uTorrent. Without a doubt, qBittorrent is our favorite client in 2019, especially for those looking to move away from uTorrent. As a free and open-source client, we’ve found it to be reliable, fast, and complete without any sort of advertisements, malware, or any other unwanted software included during installation. The app is still regularly updated more than a decade after its initial launch. With recent updates, both the resolution of the app and the visual design of the software has been updated to look cleaner than ever. Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, it’s the perfect tool for those tired of the interruptions and slow connections that can be included with you have any techniques for speeding up torrent downloads? Fix 1. Check Your Internet Speed
You can check your current internet speed by searching internet speed test on Google. If your speed score is low, it could be an indication that your internet is the problem. Try the following steps:
If you have multiple devices connected to the same modem, then it could slow your connection when downloading. Try disconnecting your mobile devices or other computers from the network to see if the download speed increases. It’s possible your modem and router have old stuff in them and something is clogging it up. You can restart your modem and router to create a new connection to your internet service provider (ISP) and get everything flowing again. If you’re using a wireless connection, try switching to an ethernet cable, which is more stable and consistently faster.
If your speed score is fast, chances are your slow download speed has nothing to do with the internet. Read on and try the fixes below.
Fix 2. Restart Your Computer
If the problem wasn’t your internet, it may be your device. The easiest fix to try would be restarting your computer which will close apps running in the background, reset your desktop environment. So if you haven’t yet, give it a shot.
Fix 3. Configure uTorrent Settings
If you’re running uTorrent Classic (the desktop client), you can try tweaking a few settings to maximum download speed.
1) Open uTorrent and click Options > Preference.
2) Under the General tab, check the box next to Append.! ud to incomplete files and Pre-allocate all files. Then click Apply
3) Go to the Bandwidth tab, then set your Global Upload/Download Rate and Number of Connections as followed:
4) Go to the Queueing tab and set the value as followed. Then, click Apply.
If you’re downloading multiple files at a time, it would take more time for each file to be downloaded because each file you download will take a piece of your bandwidth.
5) Go to the Connection tab, then set the Random port value to 45682 and click Apply.
6) Apply the settings and restart uTorrent to test the issue.
If your download speed is still slow, move on and try the next fix.
Fix 4. Use a VPN
Torrents and file-sharing use massive amounts of bandwidth. While ISPs won’t stop you from using torrents legally, they could throttle torrents and slow them to a crawl of only a few KB/s in order to prevent network congestion and lower bandwidth costs. If this is the problem for you, you can use a VPN, also known as a Virtual Private Network, to bypass Internet throttling.
A good VPN encrypts your data and redirects it through a protected tunnel. In this way, your ISP won’t be able to tell what kind of traffic you’re sending or receiving, and thus can’t interfere with your network.
Some VPN services are free but, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. Free VPNs are never as good as paid ones; either they’re not as fast or reliable, or they can be forced to share your details with the authorities.
Our favorite VPNs are NordVPN and Surfshark. Both are fast and cheap, and – most importantly – they will keep your IP address hidden.
We’ll use NordVPN for this tutorial, but you can use other VPN as well. Here’s how to use NordVPN when torrenting:
1) Download and install NordVPN on your device
2) Set up your account.
3) Click the Quick Connect button on the map to automatically connect to a server that suits your needs.
4) Now you can download securely and anonymously!
Fix 5. Allow uTorrent through Firewall
If your download speed drops to zero, it could be Windows Firewall that is blocking your torrent client. In this case, you can add an exception to the Windows firewall to fix the issue:
1) Open uTorrent.
2) Go to Options> Preferences.
3) Click Connections and check the Add Windows Firewall exception box and then click Apply.
If the box is already checked, or if this didn’t fix the issue, try the fix below.
Fix 6. Update uTorrent
uTorrent updates can eliminate hidden issues and enhance its performance.
2) Click Help, then Check for Updates.
3) After the update is finished, open uTorrent to test your issue.
If the problem persists, try the next fix below.
Fix 7. Check for Windows Updates
When is the last time you updated your computer system? If you’re running an older operating system, it could cause issues such as a slow speed when downloading.
1) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key. Then, type windows update and select Windows Update settings.
2) Click Check for updates, and then wait for Windows to download and install the updates automatically.
3) Restart your computer after the update is complete. Then, check if uTorrent can download properly.
If your issue persists, then move on to the next fix below.
Fix 8. Update Device Drivers
Missing or outdated device drivers can also lead to the download speed slow problem, especially your network adapter driver. So you want to make sure your drivers are up to date.
You can update your device drivers manually if you’re happy to do them one at a time. But this takes quite a while. Or you can update them all with just a couple of clicks with Driver Easy.
Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing.
You can update your drivers automatically with either the FREE or the Pro version of Driver Easy. But with the Pro version it takes just 2 clicks (and you get full support and a 30-day money back guarantee):
1) Download and install Driver Easy.
2) Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
3) Click the Update button next to the driver you need to automatically download the correct version of that driver, then you can manually install it (you can do this with the FREE version).
Or click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system (this requires the Pro version – you’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All).
You can do it for free if you like, but it’s partly manual.
The Pro version of Driver Easy comes with full technical support. If you need assistance, please contact Driver Easy’s support team at
4) Restart uTorrent to see if it runs properly now.
If the problem still exists, read on and try the next fix.
Fix 9. Download Files with More Seeders
Apart from your internet speed, your download speed also depends on the number of seeders and peers. Seeders are those who share their file for it to be downloaded and peers are those who download the same file.
If the number of seeders and peers for the torrent file is small, or the seeds go offline temporarily, your download speed will be slow. So you might want to choose files with more seeders when downloading.
Fix 10. Add Trackers
Adding more torrent trackers allows you to add more seeds and peers so your download speed will increase.
1) You can search torrent tracker list in Google to get an updated list of trackers with high uptime and good latency.
2) Right-click on your active downloading torrent and select Properties.
3) Copy the tracker list that you found and paste it to the end of the existing tracker list box.
IMPORTANT: Protect Your Privacy When Torrenting!
Downloading torrents is perfectly legal, so long as the files you’re downloading aren’t protected under copyright.
Downloading copyrighted shows, movies and music is illegal, and can attract significant penalties. All the major studios actively monitor torrent sites to capture the IP addresses of the people illegally downloading their works. They then contact the associated internet service providers (ISPs) and get them to trace that IP address back to you. In many countries, ISPs are legally obligated to tell the studios who you are. And even in countries where they’re not legally obligated, many ISPs will share your details anyway, simply because it’s easier.
If you plan to download copyrighted material, you should definitely use a VPN so you can’t be tracked and prosecuted. A VPN (which stands for ‘virtual private server’) hides your IP address from prying eyes.
Our favorite VPN is NordVPN. It’s fast and cheap, and – most importantly – it will keep your IP address hidden.
Hopefully, this post helped. Feel free to leave a comment below if you have any questions or suggestions.
