Does anyone else have issues with getting contact info off of CL?
Lots of things up there ask for a phone call, not an email. But when you click the purple box that says “show contact info”, or elsewhere “show phone number”, and it tries that stupid recaptcha thing (which works EVERYWHERE else), and it just fails and says an error has occurred.
Im running ABP on firefox. It doesnt work on my computer or phone, or a CL app.
Anyone else encounter this? It is a universal issue for me.

I successfully used “Contact Info” a short time ago. This on an Android based tablet. Sometimes it takes a moment for it to display, but it does come up.

I tried on both windows, mac, and iphone, and then asked my wife who is nearby, on the same network, and then also someone else across country to try… No success any time on any CL ad… Strange.

I just looked at C/L on a Win-10 p. c.
Contact Info worked as it should.
Very weird…

I get that error when I’m going through a vpn but when I turn off the vpn it works and I can see the contact info. So my guess is the recapcha is blocking the IP or the script if you’re going through some vpn or proxy, or the vpn may be the one that’s blocking it.

Firstly, any phone numbers that are displayed in the content of the ad are hidden from view. The reader has to click “show contact info” for the phone number to appear. The good news is that these phone numbers can be reverse looked up through a Craigslist keyword search. The bad news is they will not be searchable via Google or any other aggregate search engine. Here’s a sample ad with the hidden phone number under the bubble.

The second change involves the Reply/Contact button. If the button at the top of the ad says “Reply” there is only an email address displayed. But if the button says Contact, then there is a phone number, or email, or a first name displayed.

So what this means is when you keyword search for phone numbers on Craigslist, you are missing at least 37% of the ads. You might miss even more ads if you do not search all the common types of phone number formats being used, and doesn’t include spelled-out phone numbers.
