Configure Firewall Rules for Android Devices – VMware Docs
The Firewall payload allows admins to configure firewall rules for Android devices. Each firewall rule type allows you to add multiple rules.
This profile is available when
OEM Settings is enabled and the
Select OEM field is set to Samsung in the General profile settings.
Note: The Firewall payload only applies to SAFE 2. 0+ devices.
Procedure
Navigate to.
The
Firewall profile only displays for
Android profiles when the
OEM Settings field is enabled and Samsung is selected from the
Select OEM field. The
OEM Settings field in the General profile only applies to Android profiles and not Android (Legacy) configurations.
Select Device to deploy your profile.
Configure the General profile settings.
The General settings determine how the profile deploys and who receives it.
Select the Firewall profile.
Select the Add button under the desired rule to configure the settings:
Setting
Description
Allow Rules
Allows the device to send and receive from a specific network location.
Deny Rules
Blocks the device from sending and receiving traffic from a specific network location.
Reroute Rules
Redirects traffic from a specific network location to an alternate network. If an allowed website redirects to another URL, please add all redirected URLs to the Allow Rules section so it can be accessed.
Redirect Exception Rules
Avoids traffic from being redirected.
Select Save & Publish.

Important Note: To enable Firewall for Android the device should be rooted. Rooting may invalidate the warranty of the Android device.
The Need for a Personal Firewall for Android
There are comparatively more attacks against Android OS than other operating systems
Hackers infiltrate Android devices to steal data or gain control of the device.
Android devices (smart phones) connect to the Internet. These devices may have single stable IP address or a static IP address – this increases risk.
As many users want to be always connected they keep the ‘data connection’ setting ‘always on’ – this also increases risk.
When apps are downloaded they ask for numerous permissions, which include sending of log data.
The data they collect may include personal, confidential and sensitive information.
Some apps send out data even without any granted permissions

How can I disable Firewall (in the app)?
To disable Firewall, tap the gear icon in the bottom right corner of the app to open Settings. Then tap Remove Firewall (stop forwarding) then Disconnect at the bottom of the next page.
You’ll be prompted to call a number to disable the forwarding. Then you’ll see a greyed out screen that will show whether or not the disabling succeeded. Once it is successful, tap the Dismiss button.
Disabling Firewall will stop forwarding calls from your main cell number to Firewall, so all calls will come through to your phone. You’ll still be able to call out from the Firewall app from a Temporary Number.
If you want the app fully off your device, then just delete the app! You can delete Firewall by holding the app icon down and tapping the X that pops up.
You
MUST disable Firewall’s forwarding before deleting the app for forwarding to stop. Simply deleting the app will
NOT stop your calls from forwarding.
