Telegram Desktop doesn’t support http proxy with digest …
Steps to reproduce
Settings – Connection type
Add proxy, type HTTP
Enter host, port, username and password for proxy with digest authentification
Press OK, wait while it is trying to check new proxy
Expected behaviour
Telegram should be able to connect using specified proxy with digest authorization.
Actual behaviour
Proxy is shown as “not anavailble”. Web browser on the same machine uses the same proxy with same credentials successfully. Problem is in Telegram Desktop.
Configuration
Operating system: Ubuntu GNU/Linux 16. 04 Xenial
Version of Telegram Desktop: 1. 3. 9
Used theme: default
Example config for squid 3. 5 proxy with digest authentification:
_port 3128
auth_param digest program /usr/lib/squid/digest_file_auth -c /etc/squid/passwd
auth_param digest realm proxy
acl authenticated proxy_auth REQUIRED
_access allow authenticated
# Direct proxy without cache
cache deny all
via off
forwarded_for delete
And creating password file for it: htpasswd -c /etc/squid/passwd username

I am using Telegram Desktop 0. 8. I am connecting to the internet via an authenticated proxy. Telegram will not connect with such connection. How to configure it properly? Just open Settings > scroll down > Advanced > Connection type.
Find The Configuration
HTTP Proxy
The most common proxy is HTTP. If it is yours, then check HTTP with custom -proxy. It works with HTTPS too.
HTTP/HTTPS
SOCKS Proxy
If your proxy connection based on SOCKS, then check TCP with custom socks5-proxy.
